About Me
Good day, mate! I am Bijay Sapkota, an International Student Advocate with more than six years of experience in student welfare, advocacy, safety and support services. I moved to Australia as an International Student and was caught off guard by the complexities, concerns and challenges experienced by students. This propelled me to help International Students have a smooth, safe and rewarding experience while living or studying in Australia.
I started my career as a volunteer and moved up the ladder by exercising my networking skills to connect with prestigious associations. Soon after my efforts began to bore fruit as I was appointed as the National President for Council of International Students Australia (CISA) in 2017.
Over the years I have advocated for student rights through effective speeches that has significantly influenced large audiences at various conferences, committees, student associations and bodies, panel discussions, workshops etc.
My speeches are tailored to address problems and concerns commonly faced by international students like bullying, discrimination, workplace exploitation, sexual harassment, accommodation, financial and academic related issues etc.
I have advocated for youth empowerment on the following topics:
- Workplace Exploitation, harassment, bullying, racial discrimination
- Tuition fee scams, fraudulent tuition payment schemes, institution transfer, course changes
- Education agent issues, internships, career challenges
- Mental health issues, safety concerns, social anxiety and homesickness
- Cyber bullying, domestic violence, sexual harassment
